Where to begin
The first thing you need to do is understand why you need to quit. Try to make time and browse through anti-smoking materials for more weeks, so you know how bad your habit is. After a while, your desire to quit smoking will be founded by real facts. If you know you want to quit, don’t think too much about it, just quit as soon as you can make up a plan. You will learn from other people that there is no masked secret which only those who stopped smoking know, and that the only thing that matters is personal will.
Reasons to quit smoking
Look over all the reasons you might have:
-You will live longer, and life quality will be better.
- You will not be considered a risk factor for strokes or cancer.
- You will protect family members from the toxic effects of cigarette smoke, and you won’t have to change joovy strollers every couple of months because they smell just like your baby is the one that’s smoking.
- You will find a forgotten will to live and to move.
- You will now have money to buy yourself that perfume you always wanted.
Write down everything that happens when you quit
No one can make you do anything, except yourself. If you have a journal where you note down all your reasons and desires, you will have a place to return when you feel like giving up. Use the journal to answer your own questions like:
If you quitted earlier, would your life be different?
How can you change your life?
How to deal with smokers in your home and at the office?
What do you like about smoking?
What makes you hate smoking?
Is there anyone you can count on if you decide to quit?
What are the benefits you foresee?
Think of a date you want to quit
Settle a close date. If you delay the date and do not want to specify a clear day when you are going to quit you risk loosing your enthusiasm. It’s best to pick a day in which everything can go smoothly Plan a well though of daily schedule during the first days. These are the hardest days and if you don’t have many responsibilities, you’d better choose either a few days off or some heavy days in which you know that because of the tight schedule you won’t have the time to think about cigarettes.
The first few days are different from person to person, some want to relax, others to do as many things as possible. Others just want to lay down. These are the days in which we should do whatever it takes to feel as comfortable as we can. Even sleeping for a long time can help. The addiction symptoms, felt during these few days, are intense, but they last for a short period of time. You must not be scared of re-accommodation to a normal and healthy life. In the end, you will become a normal un-addicted person, that can be proud of his or hers accomplishment.
